Personal Development at WWG

At Whiston Worrygoose, personal development is a central part of our curriculum. We are committed to developing the whole child, ensuring that pupils leave our school not only with strong academic knowledge but also with the confidence, character and understanding needed to succeed in the wider world.

Through a carefully planned programme of experiences, leadership opportunities and enrichment activities, pupils develop important life skills such as resilience, teamwork, responsibility and respect for others. We ensure that every pupil has opportunities to broaden their horizons, explore new interests and develop a strong sense of belonging within the school community.

Our personal development offer helps pupils to understand themselves, their place in society and the opportunities available to them in the future. Through activities such as leadership roles, community engagement, sports participation, cultural experiences and careers education, pupils are encouraged to develop ambition and aspiration.

We believe that every child should leave Whiston Worrygoose as a confident, respectful and well-rounded individual who is well prepared for the next stage of their education and for life beyond primary school.

Careers and Preparation for Life

At Whiston Worrygoose, we help pupils begin to understand the wide range of opportunities available to them in the future. Through our careers-related learning, pupils develop an awareness of different jobs, workplaces and the skills needed for different careers.

Our approach is informed by the Gatsby Benchmarks, which are widely recognised as best practice in careers education. Through this approach, pupils are given meaningful opportunities to learn about the world of work and to develop ambition for their future.

Events such as Careers Day allow pupils to meet professionals from a variety of fields and learn about the pathways that led them to their roles. These experiences help pupils recognise the importance of learning and begin to understand the many possibilities open to them in later life.

Promoting Equality and Opportunity

At Whiston Worrygoose, we actively encourage all pupils to challenge stereotypes and recognise that opportunities are open to everyone. Through assemblies, sporting opportunities and wider learning experiences, pupils learn about equality, diversity and the importance of respecting others.

Initiatives such as This Girl Can, girls’ football opportunities and our Women in Sport assemblies celebrate female role models and encourage girls to participate confidently in sport and physical activity.

By promoting positive role models and celebrating success in a wide range of fields, we help pupils develop confidence, aspiration and the belief that they can achieve their goals.
