Big Brothers and Sisters

At Whiston Worrygoose, our Big Brothers and Sisters play an important role in supporting our younger pupils and strengthening our whole-school community. This role is taken on by pupils in Year 5 and Year 6, who act as positive role models for children in EYFS and Key Stage 1.

Big Brothers and Sisters support younger pupils during lunchtimes, helping them to feel safe, confident and included. They encourage positive interactions, lead games, support turn-taking and teamwork, and help younger children to build friendships through play. Their presence helps to create a calm, caring and inclusive playground environment where everyone feels valued.

Through this role, pupils develop leadership, empathy and responsibility, while learning the importance of kindness and respect. Big Brothers and Sisters take pride in looking after others and helping younger children to enjoy their time at school.

The Big Brothers and Sisters initiative helps to build strong relationships across year groups and reinforces our school values, ensuring Whiston Worrygoose is a happy and supportive place for every child.
